Manu Feildel forced to pull out of major event after health emergency

Manu Feildel has explained a recent health scare, after he was forced to pull out of appearing at a major event.

The celebrity chef and My Kitchen Rules judge was set to make a guest appearance at Sydney’s Tour de Cure Spring Lunch at Doltone House on Friday, but was hospitalised before he was expected to arrive.

Feildel took to Instagram to explain his mysterious absence from the event, which was a charity luncheon to raise money for cancer research.

“I wish I could be there celebrating with you, but unfortunately I have to go for surgery tomorrow,” he said in a video message.

Whilst the cook did not say what his condition was, he later posted a video showing his leg in a heavy brace.

Manu’s knee looked especially red and swollen, with dressing across the kneecap.

“I’ve had some surgery done and I can’t cook for myself as I usually do,” he said in the clip.

Fans flocked to the comments section to wish Manu well.

“Look after your leg mon ami!” wrote fellow chef Luca Ciano. “Hope you’re ok.”

“Manu, oh no. What happened?” wondered another follower, while one person quipped, “Too much sauce, and u slipped on it?”

Another concerned fan asked: “What have you done to yourself now? Wishing you a speedy recovery,” while others posted a simple, “Get well soon.”

"This guy hates my guts and I hate his": Manu Feildel spills on his feud with Colin Fassnidge

Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge have opened up about their long-running feud that began when the pair started working together on My Kitchen Rules.

On Wednesday night's episode of the popular cooking show, Manu revealed to the contestants how the judges "hated" each other's "guts" when they started filming the show together in 2014.

Their feud began when Colin accused Manu of "selling out" by joining the TV show.

Manu opened up about their previous dislike for one another, after contestants Amber and Mel explained that the name of their restaurant, Salty Secrets, was meant to encourage their fellow MKR contestants to share little-known facts about themselves.

“Do you want to hear about salty secrets from us?” Manu asked the table.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by MKR (@mykitchenrules)

“The salty secret is Colin and I started on the wrong foot. It was a tough learning curve for me.”

Manu explained that it wasn't until the end of the first episode that they resolved their differences and became friends.

“So we finished the show, I went into my room, he went into his,” he said.

“And suddenly I heard [knocks on table], open my room and he went ‘I would like to apologise for being an a***hole.’

“And we’ve been good friends ever since!”

My Kitchen Rules is set to return in 2023.

The cooking show’s future was up in the air following former judge Pete Evans’ stance on Covid.

Despite this the show did make a comeback with French judge Manu Feildel and beloved Nigella Lawson appearing as a guest judge for a few episodes.

Other big names included former Masterchef judge Matt Preston, and Colin Fassindge, however it is still too early to know who will be joining the show as a judge next year.

In a Facebook post, the show announced that it will be back for another season of home cooks showing off their skills.

“Australia's most-loved cooking show, #MKR, will return in 2023 with more great food, engaging home cooks and all-round family fun,” their caption read.

Fans however were disappointed in this year’s season which was just under four weeks long.

They are calling on Channel 7 to bring back the old style of the show.

“Hope it is a longer show next time and more lovely people like they had this year as it was a great series just too short,” someone wrote.

“Please make it a full length series,” another commented.

“Needs to go back to the original format. Manu Feildel and Kyle Sandilands pop off in tense exchange

Kyle Sandilands and Manu Feildel went head-to-head in a tense exchange about new My Kitchen Rules judge, Nigella Lawson.

The shock jock questioned Manu as to why Nigella wouldn’t agree to doing an interview with him and help promote the show.

“What’s her problem? Apparently I hear, correct me if I’m wrong producers, the network is upset because Nigella’s said ‘no way, you’re not going on that filthy show’. Our show. How does that happen?” Kyle asked.

A confused Manu was shocked to hear the claims and told Kyle he was not sure as to why Nigella would not agree to an interview, explaining this is the first time he’s heard of it.

“I have no idea, that’s news to me buddy. I will make sure she talks to you next time,” he responded.

But that was not a good enough excuse for Kyle who continued his rampage against the wrong person.

“How am I meant to support you when the woman besides you loathes the thought of me?” he asked.

“I think she’s amazing, she’s the queen but when you find out someone doesn’t like you, you can’t help but not like someone back.”

Manu’s voice changed and he made it clear that he was uncomfortable about the subject, requesting that they speak about My Kitchen Rules.

“I think you’re just being upset for no reason. Let’s not get upset guys.”

“I think he’s embarrassed that his co-worker let him down,” Kyle told Jackie O.

Jackie O did not want anything to do with the conversation and said “maybe he [Manu] was sick of talking about it [Nigella]”.

“Who gives a s**t what he's sick and tired of talking about!” Kyle shot back.

“I like Manu, I like the show, he can come on but I am very shocked about the Nigella thing. That’s a real slap to the face.”

Kyle then asked Manu to “sort out” Nigella’s management before the conversation slowly ended.

My Kitchen Rules airs on Channel 7 on Sunday August 7 at 7pm.

Images: Instagram

Colin Fassnidge addresses his feud with Manu Feildel

Colin Fassnidge has spilled on his past feuds with fellow celebrity chefs Manu Feildel and Miguel Maestre.

On I'm A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!, Fassnidge said he used to "fight everybody" as he tried to make a name for himself as a chef.

“Me and Miguel didn’t get on, me and Manu didn’t get on,” he told camp mate Grant Denyer.

“I don’t know. We just never stopped fighting.”

Fassnidge revealed his feud with Feildel came to a head when he joined My Kitchen Rules in 2015.

“When I did MKR, they knew me and Manu didn’t get on because we’d had Twitter wars and all this sh*t,” he explained. “First day on set I was like, ‘oh f**k,’ it’s his baby, he’s the Daddy of the show.’ I walk on and they’re like, ‘This is the new guy,’ and he’s like, ‘f**k this.’”

Fassnidge claimed Feildel immediately pulled an "alpha" move and said to him: “Well buddy, welcome to my home. If there’s anything you need, I’ll tell you how to do it.”

But as the end of the season approached, Fassnidge decided to end the feud once and for all.

“I just went into his dressing room and said, ‘Mate, I apologise for whatever.’ And he’s like, that’s it, buried it,” Fassnidge said. “Same with Miguel.”

The three chefs have since become good friends.

“All the wives hang out, the kids hang out … we’re like, ‘Why did we waste so long getting to know each other?’” Fassnidge said.

Australia's Got Talent backlash: Manu Feildel hits back at online trolls about his new role

Manu Feildel has been chosen as one of the judges for the reality TV show Australia’s Got Talent, but it has not come without criticism, with many Aussies disagreeing the chef has any qualifications to judge a talent show.

The criticism got under Manu’s skin so much, he spoke to TV Tonight about the matter, and it’s clear that he thinks his three years of experience in the circus and 15 years of presenting on TV is enough.

“A lot of people have asked me that question ['Why you?'] … and I say why not?” he told TV Tonight.

“I was really chuffed Channel Seven would consider me for the role.

“It doesn’t bother me, but I don’t understand why they’re asking the question. Fairy tale romance: The heartwarming story of how MKR's Manu Feildel met his wife

Maybe it’s his French accent or his talent in the kitchen, but Manu Feildel is no stranger to women fawning over him.

But despite the popularity, when the My Kitchen Rules judge met his now-wife Clarissa Weerasena at Sydney’s Ivy night club in 2011, she reacted differently.

Speaking to The Australian Women’s Weekly in 2016, Clarissa revealed that she had no idea who the iconic chef was.

“He comes up to me and says, ‘Your friend says that you can cook better than me,’ and I said, ‘I probably can’,” she recounted. “I thought, who the hell are you?”

Speaking about the hilarious first encounter, Manu told TV WEEK his version of events. “We met in a lift going to a nightclub in Sydney. She didn’t know who I was.”

He then said: “We didn’t see each other for three months after that, then we caught up for a drink. I was nervous. Because three months had passed. We didn’t see each other for another three months, then had some lunch. The rest is history.”

But what sealed the deal was Clarissa’s knowledge in the kitchen. Manu Feildel reveals his expert tips on cooking the perfect eggs

Whether they’re poached, boiled, fried, baked or scrambled, eggs can be one of the most delicious meals of choice. Eggs are jam packed full of nutrients, versatile and full of flavour. There are some common mistakes people make, that are easy to fix. Australian Eggs ambassador and celebrity chef, Manu Feildel shares his expert tips on cooking the perfect eggs at home – boiled, poached or baked!

Common mistakes when cooking poached eggs

Using old eggs – When poaching eggs freshest is always best. Older eggs will have whites that are quite runny, which means they won’t hold together as well in the water. Test an egg for freshness by gently placing into a bowl of water. If it lies on its side it is quite fresh; if it stands on end it is less fresh; and if it floats, it is stale or most likely bad.

Cracking the egg straight into the water – Always crack your egg into a small bowl before tipping it gently into the water, as this will help it keep its shape in the water.

Poaching them in saltwater – Add a little vinegar to your poaching water, this will help the white to firm up and hold together in a nice round shape. Never add salt to your poaching water; the salt breaks down the protein.

Having the water too cold or too hot – If the water is too hot and bubbly it will cause even the freshest egg to tear apart. The trick is to have the water at a gentle simmer around 90˚C, to gently cook through with light bubbles that massage the white to surround the yolk.

Common mistakes when cooking boiled eggs

Dropping the eggs into the water – The delicate shell needs to be treated with soft hands. The best way is to add your eggs is one at a time, using a pasta spoon or slotted spoon.

Cooking the eggs with an off-centre yolk – If your eggs aren’t super fresh and you want to have your yolks in the centre when cooked, gently swirl them in the pot of water for a minute or two.

Over-crowding the pot – It is best to add just enough eggs for one layer.

Adding the eggs to rapidly boiling water – If the water is too bubbly the eggs will bounce around causing the shell to crack and white to escape. Gently add your eggs to warm water, place over a medium heat to bring to a simmer and then reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer until they are cooked.

Leaving your eggs in hot water after they have come off the heat – To prevent that dark grey ring on the yolk of your boiled eggs, remove the eggs from the boiling water once cooked, plunge immediately into very cold water and lightly crack each shell a little on one side.

Peeling your eggs too soon – To ensure your shell comes off cleanly, cool your eggs in cold water, this will cause the whites to slightly contract and pull away from the white skin between the egg white and the shell.

More eggscellent tips from Manu Feildel

Always cook on low to medium heat – One of the keys to getting the perfect eggs every time is cooking them at the right temperature. Eggs are delicate and require a gentle heat regardless of how you’re cooking them.

Use room temperature eggs when baking – Room temperature eggs will always give better results with baked goods. A quick hack is to pop the eggs into a bowl of warm water (not hot) and allow them to stand for a few minutes.

Old eggs vs. fresh eggs for meringues – Older egg whites at room temperature are easier to whip and give a little more volume, but they also have larger bubbles and the foam needs to be used straight way. This makes them great when making macaroons and meringues! Fresh cold egg whites need a little more whipping but have smaller bubbles with a more uniform texture, which is great for pavlova.

For more inspiration for cooking with eggs, please visit the Australian Eggs website at this link.

Manu Feildel’s secret to creating perfect scrambled eggs

Scrambled eggs have been described as one of the easiest recipes to learn – however, some finesse is still required to cook up this breakfast staple. A few fail-safe tricks will help you get the light, fluffy eggs you’re looking for.

My Kitchen Rules star and celebrity chef Manu Feildel has shared his professional recipe and tips on getting the perfect scrambled eggs.

Below is the guide to making scrambled eggs, Manu-style.

Ingredients:

2-3 large eggs

Butter

Sea salt

Pepper

Toasts and herbs (optional)

Directions:

Whisk 2-3 whole eggs with 20-30mls milk and a good pinch of sea salt and pepper.

Heat a medium frying pan over a low heat, add a knob of butter and when foaming, pour in the eggs and leave for 60-90 seconds to begin to set.

Gently pull the egg from the edges, into the centre of the pan. Turn and tilt the pan so the runny egg takes up the available space and runs off the set egg – this gentle pulling will make egg “ribbons”.

Remove the pan from the heat before the egg is completely set. Leave to sit for a minute or two, this will let the egg gently finish cooking in its own heat.

To serve, place on top of 1-2 pieces of well buttered toast and finish with a sprinkle of fresh herbs if desired.

Avoid common egg-cooking mistakes with these tips:

Don’t let your pan get too hot. If the pan is too hot, the eggs will cook too quickly, burn and have a rubbery texture rather than be lovely and light.

Don’t be rough and move the eggs too much – light, gentle movement will help the eggs stay light and not break up.

Don’t overcook the eggs – this will also make them tough and rubbery. Remove them from the heat when still a little wet in places. The residual heat from the pan and the eggs will finish cooking them through.

Want to take your eggs to the next level? Here are some of Manu’s ideas:

For more decadent eggs, you can keep six or so eggs in a glass jar with a piece of truffle. This will infuse the eggs with the truffle flavour, then, finely grate some of the truffle over the eggs just before serving

For cheesy eggs, pour the egg mix into the pan and leave to cook for 60-90 seconds then scatter with your favourite grated cheese and continue the cooking process. Serve with hot buttered toast and sliced ham or crispy speck

For Asian style eggs, add 20ml of water and 10ml of light soy sauce instead of milk to the eggs and finish with Japanese mayonnaise, crispy shallots and a squeeze of sriracha or a drizzle of chilli oil.

Will you try out these tips? Let us know in the comments below.

Recipe courtesy of Australian Eggs.

“So disappointed right now”: Manu Feildel blasts MKR villains after epic cooking fail

My Kitchen Rules judge Manu Feildel lashed out on this season’s controversial contestants after they failed to cook up a dish worth serving on Sunday night’s episode.

Josh and Austin, titled as “NSW Home Schooled Brothers” have proved to be this season’s villains after their less-than-favourable comments towards other contestants.

After mocking their rivals over their appearance and cooking, people expected the two to whip up a dish worth a Michelin star.

The menu included clam chowder with homemade bread for entrée, chicken lollipops with garlic mash for main and lemon curd domes for dessert.

“I think we’re definitely a massive threat to a lot of people,” said Austin at the beginning of the episode. That claim was proven wrong.

The entrée was not what anyone expected, with Pete Evans saying, “I’m really struggling to find anything that I like about this dish”.

The main was supposed to be the redeeming dish for the brothers, but after making their guests wait for four hours due to trouble in the kitchen, Manu decided to unleash on the pair.

“I’m so disappointed right now,” Manu said. “You’ve been sitting around this table treating people … telling them their food’s terrible and you’re not even capable of coming back with the goods.”

Manu. This is ridiculous,” said Manu. “I’ve never expressed myself like this in 10 years!”

After the feud, Pete sent the boys back into the kitchen, warning them to deliver a perfect dessert.

“And not in two hours otherwise I’m going home,” threatened Manu.

Thankfully, Josh and Austin’s lemon curd dome was the redeeming factor of the night.

“Best dish of the night, but not perfect either,” said Manu.

Unsurprisingly, the NSW brothers were pushed right down to the bottom of the leader board after receiving a mere 31 points out of a possible 130.

They will now verse Karito and Ian to save their spot in the show.

Have you been watching MKR? Who is your favourite team? Tell us in the comments below.

My Kitchen Rules’ Manu Feildel calls for overhaul of the show

Judge Manu Feildel has called for an overhaul of next year’s My Kitchen Rules after fighting between contestants became the focal point of this year’s season.

The French chef says he wants to see “more food and less fighting” in 2019 after this year’s show saw Sonya and Hadil kicked out of the competition for their insults and threats to other teams.

Manu believes the bad behaviour not only turns off fans of the cooking show, but it also unfair to other teams as it throws them off their game.

“It [fighting] obviously has a huge impact on everyone involved and makes everyone uncomfortable,” Manu told The Daily Telegraph.

“It would be hard for anyone to perform under those circumstances.

“What I have been hearing [from viewers] is more food and less fighting — and I echo that.

“I personally, don’t want to see it again. It’s the most intense season I’ve been part of.

“The most crazy decisions we’ve had to make. It was very upsetting.”

Manu’s comments are in contrast to fellow judge Pete Evans, who recently defended the show from accusations of bullying.

MKR is in its final week with the winning team to be crowned on Sunday night’s grand finale.
